However these days more and more people are going online to the dating website Tinder.
There are over ten million users worldwide and many Māori are heading there too.
There are no official statistics on user nationality,but Semiramis Holland went in search of a Māori to find out what they think of the app and to investigate the pros and cons of Tinder.
