Al Jazeera reaches more than 270 million homes in over 130 countries - soon New Zealand viewers will be counted on that list. 

From Friday, the global news channel will be available live and free to air in Aotearoa broadcasting news, documentaries and indigenous programmes. 

But behind the English news network are 35 New Zealanders, including many Māori, who have moved to the Persian Gulf. 

Ruwani Perera travelled to Qatar to see what life is like for Māori in the land of sand.
