The education Minister Hekia Parata says almost 1,000 more Māori and Pasifika students now have better choices after an increase in NCEA Level 2 results last year.
Provisional results for 2013 show that 76.8% of students left school with at least NCEA Level 2, 58.6% of Māori students gained NCEA level 2 up from 54.6% in 2012.
71.8% of Pasifika students left school with at least NCEA Level 2.
Mihingarangi Forbes spoke with the Minister last week regarding the increase. The first question asked to her was, why Pasifika students were doing so much better than Māori?
