Native Affairs - He Maunga Teitei

By Mihingarangi Forbes

For Māori, it's like listening to nails on a blackboard, Ick-a-rower-raffidy, Teka-what-ah, Heck-yeah Paraadar.

We've all heard mainstream newsreaders and reporters butchering te reo Māori on air but most of the time the people in question appear blissfully unaware of their verbal massacre.

Worst still they don’t even make an effort to pronounce te reo Māori correctly.

However a group of journalists from TV3 are attempting to buck the trend and have made a commitment to learn te reo Māori right here at Māori Television.  I went along to have a kōrero with the blossoming reo students.
