Native Affairs - Future of Broadcasting - Part 4: Radio

By Annabelle Lee

Government funded radio broadcasting began in New Zealand in 1925.

After various incarnations in 1995, Radio New Zealand was established by an Act of Parliament.

As well as providing news, current affairs and documentary programming, concert radio and parliament radio, by law RNZ is also required to provide an international Pacific short wave service, as well as act as a lifeline broadcasting civil defence messages in an emergency.
