Matariki celebrated through Aboriginal art

By Aroha Treacher

This Aboriginal art is an interesting collection of poles made to represent Banumbirr, the brightest morning star.

These works from the 'My Country' exhibition has a special connection with Matariki, the time of year when Māori celebrate their new year.

These special works of art symbolise special rituals and ceremonies, genealogy and traditional stories.

This special exhibition called 'My Country' will be on display at the Auckland Art Gallery until August 17.
