Māori Battalion soldier’s medals up for auction

It was a big surprise to some of the whānau of a former 28th Māori Battalion soldier when his war medals turned up for sale on Trade Me.

It's been 70 years since Private George Rihia died in the battle of El Alamein in WWII and because of financial struggles of one of his family members, his medals ended up in the hands of a stranger.
