Maniapoto tūpuna paintings found

By Online News

Paintings of Maniapoto tūpuna taken from the Maniapoto Māori Trust board room have been found.  Former Te Wānanga o Aotearoa head Rongo Wetere says that the paintings are his and he's reclaimed them.

Paintings include portraits of Koro Wetere, Henare Tuwhangai, Digress Te Kanawa, Dame Rangimarie Hetet, Kiri Te Kanawa, Te Kore Crown, Mona Wikaira, Rua Anderson and Bob Emery.

Last night, the Maniapoto Māori Trust Board posted a status to Facebook saying, "Early this morning, paintings of Maniapoto tūpuna were taken from our board room without knowledge of the Trustees and our Staff. Thankfully all of our Staff are safe. This is a serious matter and now in the hands of the Police."

Te Kāea reporter Mania Clarke will have more on this tonight at 5:30pm. Rongo Wetere will also be appearing on Kawe Kōrero at 6:30pm.
