The dawn service kick started celebrations at Waitangi.
The Prime Minister John Key, Te Ururoa Flavell of the Māori Party, Hone Harawira and David Cunliffe were among the politicians who stood this morning to address those gathered for the early morning prayer.
Accompanying speeches reflecting on Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tributes also flowed for the late Hon Parekura Horomia.
Kapa haka, Ki-o-rahi, waka activities a navy band performance youth events and a wide range of other entertainment will continue throughout the day.
Celebrations will close off this afternoon with Northlands top Kapa Haka groups Hatea and Te Pū Aō taking to the stage.
