Carol Hirschfeld has been appointed the Head of Content and Radio New Zealand Networks Presentations Manager.

In a media statement released today the CEO of Radio New Zealand, Paul Thompson confirmed her appointment to the role which will see her take charge of News, Drama, Music, Spoken Features and Radio New Zealand International.

He says, “Carol is a respected media executive with a proven track record of success in managing stories, developing programmes and leading staff."

Māori Television and the role Hirschfeld currently holds as General Manager Production for Māori TV has been under the media spotlight recently with the announcement of a proposed restructure that would see her current role disestablished.

Chief Executive of Māori Television, Paora Maxwell also released a statement today confirming Ms Hirschfeld had decided not to accept the newly aligned position of HOD Internal Productions, or to apply for the leadership role of Head of Programming & Production in the proposed restructure of the organisation.

Mr Maxwell acknowledged Ms Hirschfeld’s significant contribution to Māori Television since joining the organisation in 2009.

"She is a popular member of the team and will be missed. We wish her every success with the professional challenges she chooses to undertake in the future in her new role with Radio NZ.”

Hirschfeld is expected to end her employment with Māori Television at the end of the month and join Radio New Zealand on November 24th.
