They gathered for their last whānau hui in Rotorua, ahead of a statutory apology they will soon receive, for the illegal wrong-doings by the crown to their spiritual leader and his followers over a century ago.

Te Hui Ahurei a Tūhoe mauri handed to Mataatua Marae

Ruatoki has handed over the mauri of Te Hui Ahurei a Tūhoe to next year's hosts, Te Kapa Haka o Mataatua ki Rotorua. Ruatoki, delegates from each kapa haka of Te Hui Ahurei and the Hui Ahurei a Tūhoe governance group were welcomed at Mataatua Marae, where the ceremony took place.

One hundred years ago, Māori Prophet Rua Kenana Hepetipa, was arrested at Maungapōhatu.  Yesterday marked the date of his arrest and an event commemorating the fact, was held by his people at Te Mapou Marae, Maungapōhatu.
