Extension granted to Tauranga Moana and Hauraki to enhance claims

Treaty Negotiations Minister Andrew Little has announced an extension for Tauranga Moana and the Hauraki Collective to enhance their claims. This comes after Tauranga Moana iwi descended upon Parliament yesterday in a protest to the Government to halt Hauraki Collective's deed of settlement until a tikanga process had been established between the two iwi.

Tauranga Moana descended upon Parliament today putting forward their calls to the Government to halt their Treaty Settlement deal with the Hauraki Collective until a tikanga-based process has been followed. Protests follow after overlapping claims made by the Hauraki Collective seeking interest within Tauranga.

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei address tikanga issue in court

A Supreme Court case begins today where iwi Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei will put a case forward that tikanga and culture are being diminished by government decision-making. Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei believes the Crown has ignored the role of hapū as mana whenua in central Auckland and that this should have been a consideration when they developed the Marutūahu Collective settlement deals.

Ngāti Rangi Deed of Settlement marks new beginnings

The signing of the Deed of Settlement between Ngāti Rangi and the Crown took place on Raketepauma Marae, Waiouru today. The signing marks the culmination of years of work for the iwi and the first official signing for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister, Andrew Little.
