Te Reo Revitalisation will be the focus of a workshop held today in Auckland.
The hui is a follow up to the Tāmaki Makaurau Education Forum held in November last year and in January where Māori participants identified Te Reo Revitalisation as a key educational priority.
Other factors outlined in previous hui included the identification that 69% of Māori students get little or no te reo in mainstream schools, there are more Māori living in Auckland than anywhere else in the country and the fact that Kōhanga Reo and numbers of total immersion schools are declining.
Ruakere Hond will help lead further discussions on Te Reo Revitalisation and workshop the Planning Stages to take ACTION. This workshop will get down to the nitty gritty of how people can realistically contribute to Te Reo Revitalisation.
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori supports the development of 'Te Whakarauora i te Reo Māori.'
Te Kāea will have more details on the hui tonight at 5:30 and 7pm with subtitles.
