Politicians will descend onto Te Tii Marae today as celebrations for the 175th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi continue.

The Prime Minister is expected to arrive at 10am this morning followed by Labour and other political parties at 11:30am.

Meanwhile the hikoi protesting against Statoil is expected to arrive at Te Tii Marae at midday.

Speculation is rife among mainstream media regarding the kind of reaction expected when the Prime Minister arrives, following his dismissal of the Waitangi Tribunal decision which found that Ngāpuhi never ceded sovereignty when they signed the Treaty.

Regardless of speculation, celebrations throughout the week have been peaceful and enjoyed by the majority.

Later this afternoon a waka display will take place at Hobson’s beach and a number of other events have been organised for those attending celebrations.

Te Kāea reporters will have all the details on events tonight at 5:30 and 7pm and the online team will be providing updates throughout the day on
