A training camp is currently being held at McLeod park in West Auckland for the extended New Zealand Under 18 Baseball squad.
30 of the country's top players in this age group were chosen to participate in this camp and on Christmas eve, the squad will be trimmed down to the final 20 players.
They will then prepare to take on the likes of Australia and Guam at the 18U Oceania Baseball World Cup Qualifier which New Zealand will host on January 23-26.
Stars of the future will battle it out on home soil for a berth in the IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship in Tokyo in August 2015.
Coached by Riki Paewai of Rangitane, players will have until this coming Friday to showcase their talent in the hope that they earn a place in the final team.
Our sports reporter, Rewa Harriman, went along to McLeod Park to meet some of the Māori talent who are vying for a position.
