The Govt has given the thumbs up to Partnership Schools, but will they bolster our education system?
Today they named five schools that will be the first of NZ's new Partnership Schools, which will be state-funded, but run by either a community, church or trust organisation.
Pem Bird, principal of TKK Motuhake o Tāwhiuau in Murupara, says the new model has to factor in achievement for students and the school as a whole, because it takes a village to raise a child.
The Govt's aim is to have five out of five children succeed, but some believe this model isn't the be-all and end-all for education.
Of the five schools announced under the Partnership Schools banner, two are Māori and based in Whangarei.
These new Partnership Schools will begin next year, and critics of the model will be eagerly anticipating their results.
