Māori prison population 'major tragedy' - Davis

By Dean Nathan

Hei tā Ngahau Davis (Te Mana o Ngapuhi Kowhao Rau) “The reality of what we're dealing with is generations of the impact of [prison] on our families.  Te Mana o Ngapuhi Kowhao Rau is based around the Māori worldview… we work best with our whanau together with the person that's offended, cause half the time actually the victims are their own whanaunga.”

Hei tā Davis, “Ka rongo tatou i nga korero a te komihana o nga pirihimana e mea ana he unconscious bias kei roto I nga pirihimana.  Nareira me mutu tatou I tena ahuatanga kei roto i nga pirihimana kei roto I nga tari kooti kei roto I nga whare herehere.  Koina te take ko te nuinga o nga tangata kei roto I nga whareherehere he Maori.”

Hei tā Kelvin Davis, “Mehemea ka kii taua whareherehere me pehea tatou.  Hanga I tetahi ano?  E whiu ana matou nga putea nga moni ki roto I nga whare herehere horekau he hua e puta mai ana.”
