E whakahau ana te Mema Pāremata Māori o Hauraki Waikato, a Nanaia Mahuta i te kāwanatanga, kia arotakehia te ture e tohutohu ana i te hokotanga o ngā taonga Māori. E whai ana tēnei i te mahi hokohoko i ngā taonga Māori i runga i a TradeMe.

He whakamarumaru i enei taonga tuku iho a Te Arikinui Te Atairangikāhu te mahi a Nanaia Mahuta, ā, ko tāna karanga kia whakapakari ake ngā ture haumaru i ngā taonga ka hokona mā te ipurangi.

“Meata titiro te Minita ki tenei ahuatanga mena e hiahia ana tatou te hapai i nga ahuatanga e paa an ki nga taonga tuturu Aotearoa,” hei tā Mahuta.

E wero ana a Mahuta i te tūturutanga o tenei taiaha e hokona ana mā Trade Me, me te kī a te kaihoko no Waiheke, nā Kīngi Tāwhio taua tāonga.

Pai ke kia waihotia na tenei rangatira aua taonga. Me kaua e whakapiki i te utu o taua taonga.”

Kāore te Minita mō te Manatū Taone a Maggie Barry e ū ki te whakaaro me arotake kē te ture, “It’s very difficult to make laws for the people to do the right thing, I think its morally wrong to steal things from people, I think it’s wrong to take something that you find and not try and find if it belongs to an iwi, it could be a very precious taonga or it might not be.”
