GET ON THE GAME WITH MĀORI TELEVISION SERIES PREMIERE

11 April 2006

Māori Television is loading up for the series premiere of game hunting show HUNTING AOTEAROA on Monday April 17 at 10.00 PM.

The 13-part, half-hour series is produced by Hikoi NZ Ltd and presented by the larger-than-life and charismatic Howie Morrison Junior.

With the entertainment factor coursing through his veins and a solid reputation in both Māori and non-Māori circles, this accomplished performer and sportsman has a passion for hunting that he brings with gusto to the brand new series.

HUNTING AOTEAROA aims to focus on the commitment and dedication of those who hunt and the everyday practices of rural Māori communities who employ kai-gathering as a means of sustaining life.

Hunting wild game in New Zealand can be an exhilarating and adrenaline-pumping experience and the series aims to capture the pace and excitement of the pursuit.

The series sees Howie engage with a variety of hunters who specialise in pig, goat, possum, wallaby, rabbit, hare, tahr, chamois, duck and geese hunting and includes reo and tikanga Māori content to round out the indigenous perspective.

“In the next few weeks we’ll travel to many rohe, meet many hunters, learn lots of techniques, hunt many animals and hopefully get to taste them too! So come and join us as we go hunting, Aotearoa,” he says.

The series launches with New Zealand’s largest pig hunting competition in the central plateau pine forests of Atiamuri at ‘The Bullring’ – a landmark gathering grounds for the pig hunters of Ngati Kea and Ngati Tuara.

The excitement is thick in the air, and the smell of wild pork is on the horizon as Howie chats with the locals, gathering yarns and techniques associated with
the tradition.

Get in behind with the launch of HUNTING AOTEAROA on Monday April 17 at 10.00 PM.
