E-Pānui 207: Monday March 31 to Sunday April 6 2008
CURRENT AFFAIRS IN MĀORI – ON TWO CHANNELS!

The country’s best speakers of te reo Māori debate, discuss and analyse local, national and international issues in the new season of TE TĒPU – premiering on both Te Reo on Monday March 31 at 9.30 PM and on Māori Television on Wednesday April 2 at 9.30 PM.
Presented by veteran broadcaster, actor and writer Waihoroi Shortland (Ngāti Hine, Te Aupōuri), TE TĒPU is New Zealand’s only television current affairs show that broadcasts entirely in the Māori language.
The half-hour programme will again see Māoridom’s contemporary thinkers and influencers joining Shortland to share their views on topical issues of the day. But in a new move, the show will also be filmed at major Māori events such as Waitangi Day and the Māori King’s Coronation as well as on the election trail.
In the first episode this week, TE TĒPU hits the road to Waitangi as Shortland canvasses the views of Māori from around the country. With the general elections looming, everyone is crystal ball gazing to guess the winners and losers.
Māori Television general manager news and current affairs, Te Anga Nathan, says the show will appeal to native and fluent speakers of te reo Māori as well as learners of the language who can also enjoy the subtitled version on Māori Television.
“In the past three series, TE TĒPU has covered everything from the state of the Māori language to the recent terrorism raids in Rūātoki,” says Nathan.
“Our guests have often ignored political correctness in their commentary on current issues and events that impact on the Māori world as they see it. TE TĒPU has developed into an accurate barometer of Māori opinion.”
For news and current affairs in the Māori language, tune into TE TĒPU on Te Reo every Monday at 9.30 PM (repeats Thursday at 8.30 PM); and on Māori Television every Wednesday at 9.30 PM (with English language subtitles).coming up ON MĀORI TELEVISION:
