CHILDREN’S FAVOURITE CELEBRATES 10TH BIRTHDAY!

Award-winning Māori language children’s programme PŪKANA celebrates a decade on air with a new season of fun, music, life skills and Māori language – every Saturday at 4.00 PM on Māori Television.
In true PŪKANA style, the show will mark the occasion later this year with a hilarious retrospective look at the show’s most memorable moments and the return of some familiar faces including Nanny Bubu and Nanny Juju.Mātai Smith has been involved with the show since day one as a presenter and now producer and says it’s been great to see the show grow and achieve success. He believes its biggest achievement has been to retain a loyal audience and the support of kura around Aotearoa.
“Kids who were at school back when it first started are now at university and some are parents themselves and their kids are starting to watch PŪKANA. It’s become a bit of a generational thing.”
As well as send-ups of familiar icons, television commercials and personalities, presenters Te Atirau Paki, Taupunakohe Tocker, Tiare Tawera, Marama Gardiner and Tamati Rimene-Sproat are back with more comedy, music, events and youth news – but there are new challenges afoot.
Each of them has signed a personal ‘fitness treaty’, and according to Mātai, they will be “walking the talk as they encourage viewers to get active and healthy”.
