SEASON SENSITIVE AND SUSTAINABLE – ONLY ON MĀORI TELEVISION

New Zealand’s only trilingual television show in reo Māori, English and sign language, KIWI MAARA returns to Māori Television with something new, something old, something borrowed and something true!

Premiering this Sunday February 3 at 5.30 PM, KIWI MAARA is the season sensitive sustainable gardening guide with everything from eco-friendly ideas, plant of the week, traditional Māori herbs for medicinal and therapeutic use, and inspirational guests.

Produced by Auckland-based White Gloves Television, the 13-part series digs into the important links between ancestral and contemporary gardening.

It also looks at ways of using the land in a sustainable way and revitalises Māori knowledge of gardening.

Seasoned presenters Teremoana Jones and Anatonio Te Maioha (pictured) along with rongoa Māori expert Rob ‘Pā’ McGowan are joined by newcomers, Nathan Foote (bio intensive gardening) and Stephanie Awhito (sign language interpreter).

Stephanie – who is super-imposed in a corner of the screen, simultaneously translating the Māori and English of the other presenters into New Zealand sign language – says KIWI MAARA has the potential to change the way television is made.

“The Government has now recognised New Zealand sign language as an official language and it is now being introduced into the education curriculum with reo Māori,” Stephanie explains.

KIWI MAARA will play a very big part in providing a resource for the country.”

Dig in to the practical everyday gardening advice offered on New Zealand’s only trilingual show when KIWI MAARA premieres on Māori Television this Sunday February 3 at 5.30 PM.
