IT’S GRAND FINAL TIME ON MĀORIOKE!
The waiting is almost over! After weeks of tension along with five fraught semi-finals, it’s grand final time on Māori Television’s nationwide talent show MĀORIOKE this Friday December 14 at 8.00 PM.
The finale is an extended 90-minute special with seven finalists performing with a live professional band. There are 10,000 reasons to win this competition – the prize is all cash up front.
The finalists are: Shaun Tata (Bay of Plenty); Purcell Taka (North Shore, Auckland); Lissel Stewart (Christchurch); Paiheretia Aperahama (Wellington); Bernadette August (Bay of Plenty); Rudolph Diaz (Christchurch); and Lance Kiwi (Bay of Plenty).
In addition to announcing the finalists on last Friday’s show, presenters Kingi Biddle and Cushla Tangaere (pictured) also named the category winners with a $1,000 cash prize for each.
They were: best R’n’B/hip hop – Mark Tohinui (Auckland); best pop/rock – Kiri Heads (Southland); best country and western/old school – Peggy-Joe Mitai (Hastings); best Kiwiana (NZ) – Lissel Stewart (Christchurch); and best waiata reo Māori performance – Huia Clayton (Bay of Plenty).
Mauri Ora Productions held auditions in the major centres for more than 500 singers, allowing contenders the opportunity to travel in from the smaller towns to try and dazzle the seasoned judging panel – recording artists Whirimako Black, Brannigan Kaa and Betty-Anne Monga.
Join the best new singers in the country when the grand final of the fourth series of MĀORIOKE screens on Māori Television this Friday December 14 at 8.30 PM and repeats on Sunday December 16 at 4.00 PM.coming up ON MĀORI TELEVISION:
