Māori Television is preparing for a showdown of symphonic proportions as 19 finalists vie to become supreme champion of New Zealand’s hottest karaoke competition – HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI – this Friday September 14 at 8.00 PM.
The live Friday night talent show has taken on a life of its own at the channel’s Newmarket studio with wannabe stars cramming in before a live audience each week to croon the classics, win $1,000 and seize their spot in the final sing-off.
Now the fantastic finalists are pulling out the stops, downing the honey drinks and enlisting all their whānau and friends in a bid to claim the grand final prize of $10,000. But they need your help and your votes too!
If you are keen to be there for the live aural extravaganza presented by Te Hāmua Nikora, Robynleigh Emery and Ngatapa Black (pictured), head to the Beaumont Centre, 98 Beaumont Street in Freemans Bay, Auckland, by 7.00 PM this Friday September 14. Entry is by koha.

Lovers of local rugby league can farewell the weekly review-preview show when presenter Te Arahi Maipi is joined in the studio by league legends Tawera Nikau, Ritchie Barnett and Tony Kemp. The boys reflect on the highs and lows of the national competition one last time.
MARAE DIY – Wednesday September 12 at 8.30 PM
A total transformation is in order for Omaha Marae in the sleepy north-Auckland township of Leigh. From the waharoa in the front to the kitchen out back, the work is being done to coincide with the unveiling of new carvings for the wharenui – a 10-year-and-counting project for the hapū.
MAUMAHARA – Saturday September 15 at 8.00 PM
Education: Up until the early 1950s, the majority of Māori were educated in ‘Native Schools’ while others went on to Māori boarding schools. Elders Sam Pehi (Ngāpuhi), June Mariu (Te Whānau-a-Apanui) and Mere Postow (Ngāpuhi) talk about their experiences during this pivotal time in Māori educational history.
