A proposal for the strategic alignment of Māori Television has received the support of the organization’s Māori and Crown stakeholders.
Chief Executive Paora Maxwell said support for the proposal was received following a briefing on Friday.
Mr Maxwell said stakeholders expressed their support for the strategic direction and the principles of the proposal, in particular its intent for a multi-media approach to the future and also a refreshed focus on Māori language and culture.
"Stakeholders were also satisfied that the proposal had been developed following a robust and comprehensive process and I am pleased that staff can now be informed of the details of the proposal. There's been a lot of conjecture around this proposal and I'm glad that we can shine some light on what I believe are exciting plans for Māori Television's future," he said.
The proposal is the result of an internal review and recommends changes to the organizational structure of Māori Television. Following an announcement to staff a consultation period will ensue with all feedback considered prior to a final decision being made.
No further statements will be made until staff have been briefed.
Note to media: a media statement regarding the proposal will be made available to media following a staff announcement tomorrow (Tuesday 16 September 2014).
