Māori Television, Te Papa Kāinga o Te Haka, is excited to announce the new line up of kapa haka shows starting on Monday July 21.
A new season of TOI WHAKAARI will feature six of the biggest senior kapa haka regional competitions held in Aotearoa for 2014 on Māori Television at 5.00pm and on Te Reo channel at 6.00pm weeknights.
Māori Television will also be launching the fresh new show #HAKANATION hosted by Ria Hall at 7.30pm weeknights, which looks at some of the regional performances that have qualified for the 2015 Te Matatini national kapa haka competition.
Producer Jade Robson says the new show will bring kapa haka to the nation three days a week, with a special show on Thursdays and highlights on Fridays.
“We want to show how haka and kaupapa Māori has a connection to sports, music, comedy, reality television etc.”
There will also be special coverage of the 2014 KAPA HAKA KURA TUARUA final day of competition. This year’s national secondary school competition will be held in Gisborne under a new format, with the top nine teams to compete on Friday August 1 and televised on Te Reo channel from 4.30pm to 9.30pm.
Arihia Stirling, Chair of Ngā Kapa Haka o Ngā Kura Tuarua o Aotearoa says the broadcast on Te Reo channel is an exciting development for the organisation.
“We support the Reo and we support this inaugural arrangement for the first top nine finals that will be held at Tairawhiti 2014.”
