In March 2013 Māori Television launched a new website to provide viewers in New Zealand and around the world with greatly enhanced access to its most popular programming and the latest in news and current affairs with a Māori perspective.

New features include the opportunity to provide feedback in real time and share what is going on in their world with a ‘Share Your News’ function. It also features increased social media engagement with viewers able to recommend, share and tweet almost all online content.

In addition to improved accessibility, Māori Television has focussed on creating a strong dual-language offering.  Users can search for on-demand programmes based on individual language interest and ability by selecting the appropriate level ranging from high amounts of Māori language through to high amounts of English.  They are also able to select easily between pages on the website published separately and in full in the Māori and English language.

An important attribute of the website is our ability to complement and extend the content of programming produced for our television channels. For example, exclusive coverage of Māori Electorate by-elections streamed live online and also by providing support materials online in text form for language learning programmes.

The website has been created utilising the latest developments in Responsive Web Design, giving users across a broad range of devices and browsers, access to a single and complete source of content laid out so as to be easy to view and navigate on all devices and regardless of the operating system.

The website aims to reflect the core principles of Māori Television: Mā rātou, mā mātou, mā koutou, mā tātou / For them, for us, for you, for all of us.
